Indonesia

What an incredible country!
The natural landscape of Indonesia is something that leaves you dizzy. The beaches, bright blue sky, lush jungles, towering tropical trees . . . it just leaves you speechless.
However, this terrian can also be difficult. The unbearable heat, relentless mosquitoes, and steep trails can leave one exhausted.
I just returned from a two week journey to the island of Sumatra. Stops included Medan, Meulaboh, Calang, and Loht Bok. My experiences were nothing short of life changing.
The people of Indonesia are simply beautiful.
Although the tsunami is now 19 months old, the destruction is still very visible along the coast line. "Beheaded" palm trees are subtle reminders about how high the waves were that smashed the shore on that bright December morning. I swallow hard. I can't imagine a wave like that. I hurt for the pain that these people have gone through and I say a quick prayer as we continue driving.
The courage of the people in the Aceh amaze me. As I met people in schools and on the street, hope was evident in their smiles. Life was awkwardly pushing on and they were making the best of a very tough situation. Life is hard for them, but they are not complaining.
I would love to share more about the trip if you are interested. Shoot me an e-mail or a phone call if you want more information.
