What does $40 buy anyways?

Although I’m mostly a non-cash person (preferring to track of my finances via debit card), when I do need cash, I head for the closest Washington Mutual ATM. The amount that I normally withdrawal is $40. For me, $20 isn’t worth the trip, but if I take too much out, I’ll end up spending $80 without knowing where it went. So, $40 is the perfect amount.

But what can $40 really buy in the United States? Let’s examine the various items and products and look at what the best value is for your forty greenbacks, 32 euros, 240 Danish kroners, 72,000 Ugandan Shillings, or 24 British pounds can buy you in the United States.

  1. An pair of designer jeans on sale
  2. Fill up a 15 gallon car with petrol (at $2.60 a gallon)
  3. Buy two new release DVD’s
  4. 40 songs on I-Tunes
  5. McDonalds for 4 people
  6. Dinner for two at a nice restaurant
  7. A pillow cover at Pottery Barn Store
  8. Portable CD player
  9. One month of unlimited internet access at T-Mobile hotspots
  10. One way airline ticket on Southwest from Long Island, NY to Chicago, IL Midway

Wow, how interesting!! What would you say is the best value for your money?
