my two new favorite songs

Recently two songs have captured my attention and conquered my ipod playlist.

The first is a lovely ballad called "Fidelity" by Regina Spektor.

If you haven't heard it, you need to download it immediately without thought or doubt. It is a original tune at it's core. It's sweet notes address one of the oldest issues of our world: love. But after listening to it, you will appreciate her fresh take on this age-old topic.

Next is "Dawning of the Day" by Jill Phillips.

If you like a great blend of solo vocals and choir, you will love this inspiring song. When I first heard it in the car in Birmingham, my eyes immediately perked up and I wanted to join the nearest choir. Check it out, you won't be sorry.

World AIDS Day at Samford University

December 1st . . . . . World AIDS Day

HIV/AIDS . . . . . a terrible disease that currently infects over 40 million people around the world. It kills around 3 million a year. The human impact is immeasurable. Infection continues because of economic disparity, human rights abuses, poorly enforced laws, lack of information, poor healthcare, and loneliness. This conditions are only the tip of the iceburg. This virus is flourishing around the world because of severe poverty conditions, both spiritual and physical.

Having no bias of race, gender, religion, or nationality, HIV/AIDS is simply looking a body to feed off and then destroy someday.

Upon the invite of Kristen Straw (former FH intern), Food for the Hungry was invited to spend the week at Samford University (Birmingham, Alabama) prior to this sobering day. We spent time talking with students about issues surrounding HIV/AIDS and global poverty. The pictures below is the FH team (Bo, Mark, and myself) and the Samford students that set up the activities (Kristen and Jen).

The HIV/AIDS posters attached to the posterboard amongst all the other flyers.

It was an amazing week! Many students expressed a desire to see their lives have an impact on ending poverty. In fact, many were already involved in activities of selfless nature. More than skills and technical ability, we just need people to follow their passion and love people with reckless abandonment. Let the love of the world for those suffering not growth weary.

And in between deep and gripping conversation about AIDS, poverty, and worldview, we were able to have a little fun. Ultimate frisbee, bouts of singing, fall foliage, sweet lookouts provided for classic moments and memories. If you haven't seen to Birmingham, you really such go! Check out Dreamland (great BBQ) and Fox and the Hound (off 281 near the Gold's Gym).

Here are some more great photos of the week.

The omnious presence of a university library . . . . . .

Mark, sporting his sweet shirt! I wonder where he bought that! :)

I will end with a quote from one of my new favorite songs:

"The day is dawning,

And I am just rising.

I pray my strength won't fail.

The day is dawning,

And I am just rising.

I pray my love won't fail"
